“League tables” show just how well Helsby students performed

THE post-16 performance tables published by the Department for Education showing examination results across the country have shown just how ell Helsby High School’s sixth form performed.
“League tables” produced this month showed that Year 13 students at Helsby had an average grade of “B” – the highest of any state school sixth form in Cheshire West and Chester (CWAAC)
In addition, Helsby’s average “best three A Levels grade of “B” was exceeded by only three independent school sixth forms in the borough.
Helsby’s overall progress figure of “+0.09” was bettered by only one other state school Sixth Form in CWAC.
An overall progress figure of “+0.20” for Applied General qualifications, made Helsby the top-performing post-16 institution in CWAC in terms of the progress made by students studying vocational qualifications.
Helsby High’s sixth form director, Ian Duffell commented: “We knew in the summer how well last year’s Year 13 students did – it was evident in the joy on their faces on A-Level Results Day and in the way their results enabled students to successfully progress on to their preferred education, apprenticeship or employment destination.
“However, it is still pleasing to see their results recognised nationally in the way in which they are in these Performance Tables.
Head teacher Martin Hill added: “As we have a large and vibrant comprehensive school Sixth Form, it is fantastic to see the strength of the results of our Summer 2019 cohort across the full breadth of our curriculum offer.
“Twenty nine different Level 3 courses were undertaken by this cohort of students and these tables show that students achieved exceptionally well and made outstanding progress across our A-Level and vocational subjects. Well done to the students – and thank you to the supportive parents and talented and dedicated team of teachers, whose guidance, commitment and expertise was a key factor in enabling the students to be so successful.”
