FOR the second time in just over a week, there were celebrations at Helsby High School today as Year 11 students opened envelopes revealing their achievements in their summer GCSE examinations.
The resilience, commitment and hard work of the students has been rewarded with richly-deserved success, enabling them to now progress their plans for the next stage of their lives.
At a time when the pressure of GCSE examinations has been well-documented, nearly 90 per cent of the school’s Year 11 cohort achieved eight or more GCSE or vocational qualifications and 80 per cent achieved a GCSE qualification in the ‘English Baccalaureate’ suite of subjects: English, Maths, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and one of the Humanities subjects, Geography or History. Three quarters of students achieved a Grade 4 or above in English and in Maths.
Assistant headteacher Natalie Witcher, said: “We are so proud of our Year 11 students and their achievements. We now wish this fabulous group of young people all the very best for the future as they move on to their exciting next steps and we look forward to continuing to work with many of them in our Sixth Form.”
Headteacher Martin Hill said: “This group of students deserve all their success as they have consistently worked with such determination and positivity, supporting each other every step of the way during their time at the school. Students have achieved well across all of their subjects, with a quarter of all grades at Grade 7, 8 or 9. Of particular note is how well they have done in Mathematics, with nearly 10 per cent of the entire cohort achieving a Grade 9 in the subject, the highest grade possible.”
Among the many Helsby High students who should feel very proud of their achievements are Daisy Brook, Christa Brown, Jessica Crowder, Henry Jones, Holly Lockett, Isaac Lynch, Grace Martin, Alex Rogers and Ivy White, who all achieved top grades (Grade 7, 8 or 9) in every single one of the subjects they have studied at the school over the last two years.
