Sharon’s mercy mission to India

A MEMBER of Frodsham WI who is a ward sister at Alder Hey Hospital is travelling to India in January as part of the Healing Little Hearts charity.
Sharon Greenwood will join other doctors and nurses from the hospital to perform life-saving surgery on children there who, without the surgery, would not survive.
She will also be taking bags containing items to aid the childrens’ recover – and Frodsham WI is supporting the scheme by decorating the bags.
The bags will contain a blanket, toys, crayons, colouring books and a water cup, as well as medication and equipment to help the child’s family nurse them after the team have left
Sharon said: “These families have nothing. They are desperate. We give them a blanket and cup because there is no provision for the families in the hospital, so they have to sleep outside in the grounds while their child is recovering.
“We also need to provide the medicine and some training to support their child after they go home to their village. The children are thrilled to receive the toys and crayons because they have so little in their lives.”
Sharon and the other doctors and nurses use holiday time to go on the trip.
WI members will decorate the bags with a motif of a broken heart which has been sewn back together with buttons to mend it.
The bags also have a wooden heart attached for the child’s name.
Frodsham WI is also raising money for Sharon to buy the items she needs to take with her.
Anyone who would like to contribute to the fund should contact Frodsham WI via Facebook.
