POLLING is taking place in the local elections at Frodsham today.
A total of nine candidates are contesting the two Frodsham seats on Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) – but there is a contest in only one ward in the Frodsham Town Council election.
In the CWaC election, sitting councillors Lynn Riley – leader of the Conservative opposition group on CWaC – and Andrew Dawson – are opposed by Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green Party and Independent candidates.
The two Independents are Judith Critchley, former chairman of Frodsham Town Council, and Mallie Poulton, former Mayor of Frodsham.
Full line-up of candidates is as follows.
Judith Critchley (Independent); Andrew Dawson (Conservative), Michael Garvey (Labour), Audrey Griffiths (Liberal Democrat), Michelle Parker (Labour), Mallie Poulton (Independent), Lynn Riley (Conservative), Ross Sibson (Liberal Democrat) Christine Webber (Green Party).
In the Town Council election, the only contest is in Lakes Ward, where five candidates are fighting for four seats.
They are: Donna Critchley (Independent), Judith Critchley (Independent) , Andrew Dawson (Conservative), Mel Halsall (Independent), Mallie Poulton (Independent).
In the other three wards, there are only three candidates in each ward meaning there will be no election and the new council, once formed, will need to co-opt a member of the public in Castle Park, Waterside and Overton and Five Crosses wards to fill vacancies.
Polling stations will be open until 10pm tonight.
They are at Manor House Primary School, Langdale Way, Weaver Vale Primary School, Ship Street, Castle Park House, Chester Road and Frodsham Methodist Church, Kingsley Road.
