JCB used to crash into cash machine at Tesco

DETECTIVES are appealing for information after offenders used a JCB to crash into the cash machine at Helsby’s Tesco supermarket during the early hours of Monday.

Shortly after 2am on Monday 2 September police were informed that a JCB had crashed into a cash machine at the Tesco supermarket on Chester Road.

Officers attended and found that offenders had used the JCB to force open the machine located outside the store.

They had then fled the scene with an unknown quantity of cash, travelling in a white transit van on the A56, Chester Road, in the direction of Hapsford.

Detective Constable Roger Smith said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible and bring them to justice.

“We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry, including CCTV and forensics.

“As part of this we want to hear from anyone with any information which may aid our investigation.

“The same goes for anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them arriving at or fleeing the scene.”
