Mud, mud and more mud – when the circus came to town

IT was the week the circus came to Frodsham – promising: “All you need is fun.”
In fact, all Circus Vladimir brought to the Top Field at Frodsham Community Centre, was mud, mud and more mud.
They camped out on the field for five days, did not erect the Big Top and did not put on a single show. Then they left.   Leaving the field a quagmire.
Residents who use the field for dog walking and recreation are furious.
David Tidmarsh said: “It is absolutely terrible. The field is now not fit to walk on. It is just mud and water.”
The circus, which puts on shows all over the country, paid a £100 deposit to Frodsham Town Council and was due to pay £500 for their five day stay.
Town clerk Hazel Catt said: “We  had calls from members of the public so I went down to see what had happened.
“I gather they decided the field was too wet for them to put on any performances.
“If they had looked at the field first, or even if they had driven on and then come off again straight away, I  would probably have refunded their deposit.  They did arrive soon after Storm Doris!
“But they went on and stayed for five days.  In the circumstances I shall require them to pay the full £500 and also restore the field – levelling it and re-seeding it – in accordance with the terms of our agreement with them.”
Frodsham Life has attempted to contact Circus Vladimir but could only reach an answering service.
