PUPILS, staff and governors from Frodsham CE Primary School visited Chester Zoo as part of a whole school conservation project to promote the use of sustainable palm oil.
The trip provided the children with the opportunity to find out more about several species that are endangered due to habitat loss in Borneo and Sumatra. During the summer term each class will be learning across the curriculum about the impact of the expanding unsustainable palm oil industry.
Each class will study in detail a particular species whose survival is threatened by the destruction of rain forests in order to manufacture palm oil which can be found in 50 per cent of supermarket products.
Their work will feature in an exhibition to the school community in June.
Head teacher Mrs Lucy Kirby said: ìWorking in partnership with Chester Zoo, this project is a fantastic way for children to understand the impact we are having on our environment and for them to be motivated to stand up and make a change for a better future for our planet.
