Cricket starts in the Frodsham area – but only just

THE cricket season started in the Frodsham area at the weekend – but only just.

Only two matches were played – and those involved Kingsley and Alvanley. Frodsham’s games were cancelled – victims of the wet weather that blighted the area in the run-up to the season and resulted in both the Cheshire County Cricket League and Cheshire Cricket League postponing the start of the season by one week.
The only local matches played on what was originally scheduled to be the second weekend of the season were Kingsley 2nd and Alvanley 3rd.
Kingsley were beaten by just four runs in their home game with Runcorn. Batting second, they hit 117, skipper Jamie Creek top scoring with 49, in reply to Runcorn’s 121-6.
Pick of the Kingsley bowlers were Adrian Burden and Richard Ford, with two wickets each.
Alvanley won by seven wickets at Chester County Officers after bowling the hosts out for 73, David Bergstrand taking 3-16. Alvanley coasted to 77-3, Davie Pearson hitting 21 and Will Evans 27.
