CHRISTMAS has come early for Ho Ho Helsby – the independent, volunteer led group which puts an extra sparkle into the festive season in Helsby every year.
The Marshes Community Benefit Fund, which awards up to £170,000 a year to local community projects from the profits of the Frodsham Wind Farm, has awarded £5,000 to the group.
The grant will fund a number of improvements to the annual events, including additional lighting for a neglected part of Helsby village and also various activities for the event.
The objective of Ho Ho Helsby is to bring together all elements, all ages, abilities, denominations, of the local community as one to celeb rate, as well as providing local groups with the opportunity to showcase their talent and for local businesses to also participate.
Attended by more than 2,000 people, the free Christmas festival has a variety of attractions. It culminates in a twilight parade of about 15 decorated vehicles populated by local schools, voluntary groups and, of course, Santa.
The festival involves a large selection of local voluntary, musical and others groups, artisan stalls and a grotto. They also help source a central Christmas tree and Christmas lights.
