Four-legged friends entertained care home residents

A FRODSHAM care home invited a couple of special four-legged visitors to entertain staff and residents.

MHA Chapel Fields welcomed two rescue Shetland ponies, Caramel and William, from Simply Shetlands, an organisation based in Altrincham, who provide therapy ponies for sessions in care homes.
It’s the first time since the pandemic the home has arranged an activity such as this, and the residents and staff were all very impressed.
The ponies had a great time walking through the home and were really well behaved during the visit.
The visit was arranged by activity co-ordinator Sharon Holsten.

MHA Chapel Fields provides residential care, providing personal and nursing care for up to 70 people.
After the visit Sharon said: “I managed to keep the visit a surprise from everyone, and it was totally worth it.
“The residents were very keen to know and were always asking, but their reaction when they saw the ponies was priceless.
“We did something like this around five years ago, but a lot of our residents have changed since then.
“Frodsham is a fairly rural place, so a lot of our residents would have spent time on the farm in their younger days and would have either owned ponies or known family and friends who had ponies.
“The ponies were so well behaved and kept the residents very engaged, the visit was very successful, and we are already looking to do it again.
“It’s all the residents have been talking about so we will aim to do it again very soon.”
