Police commissioner visits Frodsham allotments to see improved security

CHESHIRE Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer dropped in at Frodsham Townfield Allotments to see how his Community Action Fund has enabled greater security at the site.
Plot holders had suffered from a number of thefts and incidents of malicious damage to their allotments, leading to calls for improved security to protect their hard work.
Following a successful bid to the Community Action Fund, the main gate to the site has been upgraded along with improvements to the fencing around the perimeter, to deter people from climbing over and prevent further thefts and damage
The site is also being protected under Cheshire Constabulary’s ‘Operation Shield’, which helps to get stolen property back to its rightful owner and locate the criminals responsible.
Mr Dwyer said: “Frodsham Townfield Allotments provide a great service to the local area and a hub for community activity, so it was disappointing to hear that their site had been a target for criminals.
“Preventing and tackling crime is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan, so I’m pleased to have been able to support in securing their site for the plot holders and community to enjoy.”
Will Moran, plot manager at Townfield Allotments said: “The response of the Police and the Commissioner was very positive and has enabled us to help fund significant improvements to our site security with additional fencing and a new front gate. The committee were grateful for the help and advice about the security of the site in the future.”
