THE new officials at Helsby Golf Club took part in the annual club Drive-In competition.
It was a crisp, wintery day – something of a rarity this year – and captain Chris Stubbs, lady captain Chris Marsden and president Kathleen Wilkinson, were delighted to hit drives more or less down the middle of the fairway in the traditional start to their year in office.
Captain Chris Stubbs has been a member at Helsby for 39 years, is a retired commercial manager and former secretary of the Towers Lane club.
Lady captain Chris Marsden joined Helsby six years ago and is a retired chemical research manager who counts bridge, tennis, skiing and theatre amongt her hobbies.
President Kathleen Wilkinson is the club’s first lady president and is a past lady captain and member for 50 years. Her family has strong link to the club – her husband is a past captain, daughter
Julia came through the junior ranks and her mother was a past lady captain.
The captain’s chosen charity for the year is Claire House Hospice while the lady captain’s is the Neurotherapy Centre in Saltney Chester.
The two captains will both be raising money for these charities with a variety of events planned throughout the year.
