SPORTY pupils at Frodsham Primary Academy have struck gold for the second year running.
The school has been awarded the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/2023 academic year.
A Government-led award scheme run by the Youth Sport Trist, the School Games Mark recognises and rewards the provision and uptake of school sport, awarding schools that meet the requirements of a set of national standards.
Head of school Gemma Callaghan said: “We are dedicated to keeping children active at Frodsham and it’s lovely that our success in encouraging involvement in so many varied sports has been recognised with this award.”
Pupils enjoy a rich array of sporting opportunities at Frodsham Primary Academy, including swimming, scooting and cycling, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, cricket, football, gymnastics, athletics and rounders.
There are regular competitive events within school and with other schools, including boccia, new age kurling, netball, basketball, football, cricket, tennis, gold and cross-country running.
The school has notched up a long list of sporting successes, including first place in a basketball competition for Year 5 and Year 6 girls, third place in a golf competition for Year 3 and Year 4 children, and a cluster of awards at new age kurling.
Sport isn’t just for the sporty at Frodsham; the school holds ‘celebration’ sporting events for less active youngsters and those new to sport, and inclusive games for children with additional needs.
Getting girls more actively involved in sport is a big focus at Frodsham, with female football Fridays being held to give girls the chance to develop their love of the sport.
