Councillors call on MP to challenge CWaC over Frodsham tip

FRODSHAM’s borough councillors have called on MP Mike Amesbury to challenge Cheshire West and Chester Council over the town’s tip.
Cllr Lynn Riley (pictured) and Cllr Chris Basey say they are pleased the Weaver Vale MP has responded to their campaign to save the Frodsham Household Recycling Centre.
But they want him to challenge Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) on the future of the tip site and not simply accept their “assurances” at face value.

Cllr Riley and Cllr Basey, who recently recorded a video raising concerns over the future of the site, have noted that CWaC has not made any application to keep the tip open once its lease expires in August.
Cllr Riley said:“It is good news that the Labour MP is joining us in challenging the Labour Council over this, but his comment that he has been given assurances by the chief executive is just not good enough. As a former councillor himself, Mike Amesbury should know that the decision for this lies not with the chief executive but with the council.
“As yet, the council has not made an application to extend the lease, with only 75 days remaining until it expires. So while it is good news that he has joined our campaign, the warm words of the council will provide little reassurance to local people until it is backed up with something concrete.”
Cllr Basey added: “All Cheshire West Council has to do is to make an application to extend the lease, to give us some breathing room, and then work with us to find a better site for the tip here in Frodsham. That is all we are asking for.
” But until we see a planning application made, the future of the tip is anything but certain in the long term.”
Frodsham’s councillors say they have been in contact with the planning department at CWaC throughout this process, who have confirmed that no application to extend the lease has yet been made
