Curious Cat Bookshop to host acclaimed author

FRODSHAM’S new book shop – The Curious Cat Bookshop – is to host acclaimed author Kate Mascarenhas on Tuesday, May 14.

The event is the latest put on by the boutique bookshop in Main Street since it officially opened in March.
Kate Mascarenhas, who was born in 1980. is of mixed heritage (white Irish father, brown British mother) and has family in Ireland and the Republic of Seychelles.
After studying English at Oxford and Applied Psychology at Derby, she completed a Literary Studies and Psychology PhD at Worcester.
She has written three novels: The Psychology of Time Travel, The Thief on the Winged Horse, and Hokey Pokey.
Curious Cat Bookshop owner James Caldwell has created a haven for both adults and children – and it welcomes book lovers and feline enthusiasts alike.
It offers a carefully curated selection of captivating reads, ranging from contemporary fiction to timeless classics.
But what truly sets this bookshop apart is its charming resident cats who add warmth and whimsy to the experience. Visitors can enjoy the company of these friendly felines while browsing the eclectic collection.

Already the bookshop has hosted local authors Frank Melling and Vivien Shaw in launching their recent novels, with more events planned to support local writers. It also hosts monthly BookSwop nights.
James said: “We wanted to create a place where we could share stories from upcoming authors alongside a curated list from bestsellers whilst creating a friendly welcoming atmosphere through the playful presence of our cats.
“Whether you’re here to find your next favourite novel or to experience the joy that a cozy independent bookshop can bring, we hope you’ll feel right at home.”
With its focus on nurturing a love of reading for all ages and its distinctive feline friends, The Curious Cat Bookshop is already becoming a cherished local institution.
The May 14 event will be at award-winning foodhall and wine merchant Whitmore and White, also in Main Street, from 7pm to 10pm and will include wine and nibbles.
