Plan for a new home for the Helsby Tap

A PLAN to move the popular Helsby Tap bar into new premises is being considered by Cheshire West and Chester planning chiefs.
The retrospective application by Mr James Foreman, of The Helsby Tap Ltd., involves relocating the bar from Helsby railway station to a former electricians’ workshop at Priestner House, off Chester Road, Helsby.
It is currently being considered by planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC).
In a letter to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning department, Mr Foreman says his business was formerly at the station, in a residential area.
“This new building is just off the high street.
“We have great support from the local residents, most of whom are our customers”
Mr Foreman says the tap room will close at 10pm, with last orders at 9.30pm.
Customers will not be allowed to use the drive to the building and instead will be asked to use the car park opposite.
He adds: “The reason for moving from the old building is due to the rent increasing beyond what we can afford. This new building is better located and with a better layout.”
Work on converting the building is said to have already started.
