90-minute delays for drivers after crash on M56 and road closed after lorry hits bridge

MOTORISTS experienced delays of up to 90 minutes after a collision on the M56 between Junctions 14 and 12 this morning.
The incident involved a black Volkswagen and a blue Ford Transit was on the westbound carriageway just after 8am.
Police, fire, ambulance and highways teams were at the scene and were busy clearing the vehicles from lanes two and three
Highways England said the incident had been cleared but motorists were warned to still expect delays and advised to avoid the area.
The incident followed an earlier one yesterday (Monday) when a heavy lorry crashed into a railway bridge on Chester Road, near Sutton Weaver.
The vehicle overturned after the collision and police had to close Chester Road between the Sutton Weaver swing bridge and the junction for the A533 Southern Expressway.
Delays continued for some time while Network Rail checked the railway bridge for damage.
