The 2018 football calendar has been packed. The most recent Premier League season ended on May 13th with Manchester City being crowned as champions.
A month later, 32 teams descended on Russia and the World Cup. After a month of intense football action France prevailed as world champions. Now, the Premier League is fewer than 18 days from beginning. 10Bet has plenty of great Premier League future bets for fans to get excited about even if it is difficult to get up for this season.
Premier League excitement: Is anyone ready for kick off?
There are a few reasons this Premier League season is difficult to get excited about. The World Cup feels like it just ended. The new Premier League season will start less than one month from the tournament finishing. Many of the top players who played in the World Cup’s knockout stages have yet to report to their club teams.
Not only did the World Cup just finish on July 15th, but this year’s tournament has been called the best in more than a decade. There is a hangover clouding fans of the Premier League and supporters have had little time to miss football. There is an old saying, “how can I miss you, if you don’t go away?” It seems that is true about football in 2018. There has been too much and most of it has been really, really good.
Premier League excitement: Can anyone stop Manchester City?
There is a belief among Premier League football supporters that Manchester City have already won this year’s competition. While it seems far too early to crown Pep Guardiola’s side the kings of the Premier League again, it feels like the club could be set for an extended period at the top.
Other than midfielder Yaya Toure, Manchester City haven’t lost anyone of note. The club has made some money from squad and academy players being sold, and reinvested it into the squad. Although Guardiola missed out on Jorginho, who went to Chelsea, the club did spend £60 million on Riyad Mahrez. Manchester City aren’t necessarily better than last season with the signing, but they are certainly no worse.
On paper, there looks to be one team that can stop Manchester City from repeating as Premier League champions. Liverpool are that team thanks to their summer spending on Alisson, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Naby Keita. Liverpool are the most improved squad in the league, but will it be enough to claim their first Premier League title?
While Manchester City and Liverpool will fight for a title, perhaps fans should look toward newly promoted club Wolverhampton Wanderers as the most interesting side to watch. The FoSun International owned club continues to spend money like a drunken sailor. The club has brought in a host of top-class players from Portugal and Spain to augment the side that romped to the Championship title last term. Wolves are an unknown quantity. They could flop or make Europe. Wolves have the talent to be good, but can the Portuguese revolution continue at the Molineux? Answers to all of these questions and more will begin rolling in August 11th.
