Pylons damaged in fire near electricity substation

FIRE crews were called to a wooded area at Helsby yesterday after a large plume of smoke was observed.
The incident was near Sherwood Grove, Helsby and fire engines from Runcorn and Middlewich attended.
Crews had to investigate on foot because of the location and Scottish Power were alerted because of the proximity of an electricity substation.
A Fire Service spokesperson said three pylons were affected – one of which was badly damaged.
Firefighters used two main jets to extinguish the flames.
The incident was first reported at 1.38pm and at 5.12pm crews reported the blaze was almost extinguished and that damping down was in progress.
