FIREFIGHTERS – including rope rescue teams – from Chester, Lymm and Bollington were called to Manley near Frodsham yesterday when a horse got stuck in a muddy pond.
The incident was in a field off Nortons Lane and the horse – a six year-old named Charlie – was discovered lying on his side in thick mud in a pond that had become a swamp after losing a lot of water following the drought
Firefighters, an animal rescue team and rope rescue units all attended the scene where they liaised with a vet to formulate a rescue plan.
Cordons were established as the operational teams made good progress in releasing the young, healthy Charlie who had been sedated by the vet.
Ropes and strops were used along with a mechanical digger to release the horse.
Charlie was soon back on his hooves after the sedation had worn off and is reported to be none-the-worse for his ordeal.
