GCSE successes for Helsby High School’s Year 11 students

THERE were more celebrations at Helsby High School today as Year 11 students learned of their successes in the summer GCSE and vocational qualification examinations.
Despite the challenges they had to confront over the last two years, which included learning at home for a term during Year 10 and on-going uncertainty throughout the first half of Year 11 over whether or not the examinations would even take place, all the students’ resilience, positivity and sheer hard work was rewarded with richly-deserved success as they discovered their grades and made their plans for the next stage of their lives.
Particularly impressive was the way that their success was spread across all students and all subjects. Every single student in the Year 11 cohort achieved at least 4 GCSE qualifications, with well over 25 per cent of all grades achieved at grade 7 or above.
More than 80 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English, with 80 per cent in Mathematics, and 65 per cent of all students achieved a GCSE qualification in English, Maths, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and one of the Humanities subjects, Geography or History.
Headteacher Martin Hill said: “Students’ resilience has been tested more than it ever has before over the last two and a half years. Hence this group of students deserve all the success they have achieved and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
Deputy headteacher Dr Pritchard-Roberts, who led the year group through their summer examinations, said: “As a school we are so proud of how our students worked together and supported each other through to the achievement of these wonderful results. We now look forward to continuing to work with this fabulous group of young people in our Sixth Form.”
Among the many students who should feel very proud of their achievements are Emily Anderson, Laura Farmer, Alfie Hayes, Heather Salmon and Abigail Wallace, who all outstandingly achieved eight GCSEs at Grade 9, the very highest grade available.
