A PUBLIC consultation event is to be held next week into the Woodland Trust’s plans to create a new community woodland at Frodsham.
The event – to be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 26 and 27, between 10.30am and 3.30pm – will be in the large committee room at Frodsham Community Centre in Fluin Lane.
It offers an opportunity for local people to find out more about the Woodland Trust proposals to take on management of land at Frodsham Golf Course, creating new woodland and linking with existing woodland.
There will be opportunities for local people to volunteer for work in connection with the scheme.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Frodsham Golf Club, had been sold to the owners of nearby Northop Golf and Country Club after being offered with a guide price of £1.9 million and attracting strong interest from a wide range of interested parties.
Charles Greville- Heygate, a partner in the Leisure and Hotel department of Strutt and Parker, who handled the sale said: “I was not surprised by the interest. It was a very attractive and popular course, with a strong membership base. The two courses should work together well and benefit the management and membership of both.”
Frodsham Golf Club is less than three miles of junction 12 of the M56 and is easily reached from the conurbations of Chester and the Wirral (population 430,000), Liverpool and Manchester. The 6,328 yards, 18-hole course was opened in 1990 on former farmland.
According to the Woodland Trust, the project offers an exciting opportunity to link the existing Woodland Trust sites at Snidley Moor, Woodhouse Hill and Frodsham Hill Woods.

Have your say on plan for new community woodland at Frodsham golf course

We don’t have enough bridal ways for our horses to go down to have a leisurely walk or trot it would be lovely after most of the car drivers in frodsham are Inconsiderate when it comes to passing wide and slow past our horses while using the road and then hurl abuse at us when horses spook and nearly miss them we need a safe place to enjoy where our horses won’t come into too much immediate danger by ongoing traffic from road users.
The roads are dominated by cars , which has clearly been recognised, as so much money has been ploughed into the safety of cyclists ,
but there is hardly anywhere for equestrians to enjoy their sport safely .
I really think this needs to be considered in any future plans .
Let’s hope they turn the course back to how it was, have they got a date to start the redevelopment?
Please give access to horse riders by making bridle way paths through the golf course. Cheshire is very poor for bridle ways and locally we have very little public facilities to ride off road. The new woodland should be enjoyed by ALL the community – ramblers, dog walkers, horse riders, mountain bikers – EVERYONE – no matter how they spend their leisure time – there should be room for us all. Frodsham is a rural community with a lot of horse riders with limited off road hacking.
Despite the new changes in driving law when vehicles are passing horse riders, many drivers are inconsiderate and are apparently unaware of the changes and the roads are still dangerous. If we could spend less time on the roads, it would be better for the whole community.
Sian – I’m hoping this is you – I found your brown handbag in Chester Waitrose today (21/12)/23 – I handed it to customer service . Hope you get it back
Access to horse riders and walkers would be a great addition to the local sports leisure facilities and will join the sandstone bridle ways and Delamere forest to Frodsham hill. If there is going to be woodland pathways in the golf course make these into bridle ways so that local horse riders can enjoy this facility.
Allowing this place to be utilised and enjoyed by all would be a fantastic development! Locally there are many equestrians who are limited in access to safe bridle ways. These spaces don’t have to be limited to horse riding, but can also provide an enjoyable communal space for all ages and outdoor activities!
Please allow horse riders to also use the golf course! It should be a space for everyone to use. Bridle paths could be created?!
I hope the area can be used for recreation for all residents of frodsham.
If we have learnt anything from the pandemic, one thing must surely be the advantages of having local outdoor amenities. I enjoy cycling, but reading the comments above, it would be nice to see paths and bridle ways available for everyone and every activity.
I would love to see an environment that provides for nature and wildlife, walkers and horses – especially given the comments I’ve seen from other people here. On the Wirral Way the footpaths and bridleways are distinct, which is helpful and assists in it being safer for all users – maybe some similar distinction would be possible here.
Use to work there as a greenkeeper, breaks my heart how Paul the owner had run it down so badly. He should never be allowed to run any business never mind a golf club. He is a des grace to the community.he only thought about himself and no one else, I just hope the trust did not give him what he wanted.
