MP drops in to see new development of family homes

MP Mike Amesbury has given his seal of approval to a new development of 11 family homes in Helsby, which has breathed new life into the site of a former independent living scheme.
The Weaver Vale MP was also on site at Springfield Avenue to celebrate Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s 300th new home built since 2018, part of its commitment to deliver 800 new homes by 2026.
Mr Amesbury, the Shadow Local Government Minister, previously visited Weaver Vale’s site last summer when it was under construction. As he was shown around the development, he expressed his appreciation at seeing the homes completed and ready for 11 local families to put down roots.
Including seven two-bed and four three-bed properties, the homes are available for affordable rent – specifically for those who live locally or have a local connection.
The high-quality homes are built to high standards of energy efficiency, ensuring that running costs are as low as possible. The homes also feature electric car charging points to ensure they are fit for the future.
Weaver Vale partnered with M&Y Maintenance and Construction Limited on the £2 million scheme.
Mr Amesbury said: “It was great to see these brand-new high-quality homes for affordable rent being handed over to the happy, smiling tenants thanks to Weaver Vale Housing Trust.
“One of the best comments was from a mother moving in with her five-year-old son. She described where she was before as ‘just somewhere to live’ whereas this was ‘a home’.
“I also met a couple with three young daughters, including a new-born, who thanked me for helping them find this new property after their former landlady decided to sell-up at Christmas time, turning their world upside down. They said moving into Springfield Avenue was ‘like winning the Lottery for us!’”
Wayne Gales, chief executive of Weaver Vale Housing Trust said: “It’s been a real pleasure to welcome Mike Amesbury back to Springfield Avenue, to show him around the completed homes and underline the positive impact they will make for the local community.
“Building high quality new homes is an important part of our commitment to creating vibrant communities and building back fairer as we tackle the significant impact that the pandemic has caused across many of our communities.”
