A DISCARDED barbecue started a fire at Frodsham shortly after nine o’clock last night.
The blaze was in Bellemonte Road, Frodsham and a fire engine from Widnes was sent to the scene. The crew swiftly extinguished the fire.
Afterwards, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service appealed to people to always follow their barbecue safety advice to avoid fires.
This is as follows:
To avoid injuries or damage to property follow these simple precautions:
Never leave a barbecue unattended.
Ensure the barbecue is on a flat site, well away from a shed, trees or shrubs.
Keep children, garden games and pets well away from the cooking area.
Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies.
Ensure the barbecue is cool before attempting to move it.
