KINGSLEY Parish Council has awarded more than £3,000 to support the valuable work of four community groups, all run by volunteers, in the village.
This is the second year of the council’s Community Grants Scheme and members decided to offer support to Kingsley WI, Kingsley Cricket Club, Kingsley Players Youth Theatre Group and 1st Kingsley and Newton Scout Group. The awards will help the groups in a variety of ways.
* Kingsley WI – Replacement of crockery and teapots for use at the Community Centre for the WI and any other groups that hold meetings or host events there.
* Kingsley Players Youth Theatre Group – Four workshops run by professional teachers to help support, encourage and further develop the confidence of members of the youth theatre group. The group now has over 30 members (aged between 7 and 17). The workshops will help them to learn how to take direction, work as part of a team, and put on their own productions.
* 1st Kingsley and Newton Scout Group – Further work to repair and improve a community building in the village. The next phase of improvements to the Scout HQ will include the complete replacement of the existing floor and the cladding of the outside of the building.
* Kingsley Cricket Club – Purchase of replacement cricket bags and other equipment for the U11 and U13 teams. The new kit will help support the continuation of coaching of juniors at the club and will help encourage more participation by local children. The club already acts as a “social hub” for many families in the community. Up to 100 children visit the ground on a weekly basis during the summer months often bringing other family members with them to help or watch.
The awards were presented at the monthly meeting of the council by Cllr David Fletcher, a member of the Community Fund working group.
